This steel has an excellent resistance to hot oxidation as well as a good performance to creep. Its strong iron content protects this nickel-chromium alloy against green caries, Which is a deep oxidation of chromium. Moreover, it is insensible to the weakening formation of the Sigma phase.

Properties
This nickel-chromium-iron alloy presents a good resistance to hot temperature corrosion. That is why it is considered as a Classic material for the construction of industrial ovens. Alloy 600 is always used when high temperature gases contain elements of the halogens family.
Also used on conditions of wet corrosion.

The high chromium content of this alloy and the addition of aluminum confer it a remarkable resistance to oxidation up till 2192°F, to fuel gases and sulphurous atmospheres. Nickel-chromium-iron-mobydene-copper alloy stabilized with titanium having a very good resistance to corrosion in sulfurous or phosphoric environment. That is why it is considered as the standard material for a use to the contract of the sulphuric acid. This alloy has an excellent resistance to corrosion by injections, by cracks or under tension in a strongly oxidating environment (brass chloride or ferric chloride solutions, solutions with formic or acetic acid, contaminated hot mineral acids). Alloy K500 combines the excellente resistance to corrosion of alloy 400 in much higher mechanical characteristics obtained by structural hardening (triple elastic limit and double tensile strength compared with Alloy 400).
